THIS IS HOW OUR PREMIUM DECAF PROCESS WORKS.
WHAT HAPPENS INSIDE
THE BEAN .
Caffeine is just one of thousands of components in a coffee bean. During roasting, many of these components develop the intense aromas that define the character of a coffee.
That’s why we use liquid natural carbon dioxide in our Carbonic Natural® process to gently extract the caffeine from the bean.
This ensures that the full flavour potential of the coffee stays where it belongs: in the bean.
The Carbonic Natural® process: a simple cycle.
Carbonic Natural® extracts the caffeine while the flavour compounds remain in the coffee bean. This process works in just a few steps.
In extraction vessels, we first moisten the raw coffee with water and steam. This causes the green beans to swell and open their structure for the liquid natural carbon dioxide.

Liquid natural carbon dioxide flows into the extraction vessel, where it circulates through the beans and extracts the caffeine.
The liquid natural carbon dioxide, along with the caffeine, flows into the evaporator. Here, we convert the carbon dioxide into its gaseous state, separating it from the caffeine.
The carbon dioxide is then re-liquefied and flows back into the extraction vessel. This cycle repeats until the caffeine is almost completely removed from the beans.

With Carbonic Natural®, your coffee has around 10 times more time than other methods to separate from the caffeine.


The quality is clear to see. Thanks to the particularly gentle decaffeination and drying processes, the green coffee beans retain their original, only slightly darker green colour.


GREAT FLAVOUR IN ALL SIZES.

With Carbonic Natural®, coffee roasters can decaffeinate their coffee in one of the smallest batch sizes available on the market. 3 tonnes are too much? Smaller quantities of high-quality premium coffees are also available through our retail partners.

Carbonic Natural® decaffeinates coffee using natural carbon dioxide from the Volcanic Eifel region of Germany, meeting the world’s most important sustainability standards and is certified for organic products in the European Union, the USA, Japan and Switzerland.
